Introduced in 2009 the NHS Health Check provides a systematic screen of all eligible patients once every 5 years to measure various bio-markers and assess the risk of cardiovacular disease.
Earlier prevention, diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, impaired glucose regulation/impaired fasting glycaemia, diabetes and chronic kidney disease will contribute to the reduction of life-threatening events such as heart attacks ands strokes.
During your appointment we will assess your:
– Weight
– BMI
– Waist measurement
– Blood Pressure
– Pulse Rate
– Total & HDL Cholesterol
– Smoking status
– Family history of cardiovascular disease
– Dietary intake
– Physical activity levels
– Alcohol consumption
– For people aged 65-74 Dementia Awareness
– QRISK2 score (calculated and discussed)
Who is eligible?
If you are aged between 40 and 74 years old and do not have any of the following conditions you can book an appointment with our practice nurse or health care assistant.
- Coronary Heart Disease (CHD)
- Chronic Kidney Disease (stages 3-5)
- Stroke
- Hypertension
- Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA)
- Receiving Palliative Care
- Diabetes
- Peripheral Vascular Disease (PAD)
- Heart Failure
- Familial Hyperlipidaemia
- Atrial Fibrillation (AF)
- Previous CVD risk score >20%
If you have not had a blood test in the last three months you will be required to have one prior to your appointment.
